Cakewalk FAQ’s!

Hooray! You found ‘em. Honest As to the most common Qs I get.

You have questions.

Let’s get you some answers.

  • You're a home organizer, right?

Yes! I totally enjoy organizing spaces big and small, so I’d always LOVE to hear about your organizing projects, ideas or wish lists, but honestly, that’s just the start of what I do for my clients.

So if you want help organizing this room or that, hall closets or kitchen cupboards that are spilling over or, or even your office, counters and those wacky, wild piles —COUNT ME IN.

But that's just a slice of the support Cakewalk offers. I see organizing, decorating, decluttering, refreshing spaces, tidying, and having cleaning supplies handy as all the delightful, related pieces of the "pie"... or rather, the cake! 🍰

    Short answer: Yes!

Better answer: Yes, and oodles more.

  • Can you tell me more about Cakewalk sessions?

Yep! It’s a personalized, hands-on home support service designed to help you organize, decorate and manage your home "to-do" lists. Sessions are fun, flexible and tailored to you, often a mix of organizing and decorating. Depending on your goals, sessions may include:

Decluttering & Organizing: Sorting through items in your rooms (visible spaces) plus closets, etc. (hidden spaces) to decide what to keep and what to part with.

Space Refreshes: Repurposing existing items or doing a room layout switcheroo to give a room a brand-new look that’s ideal for your life now (not your life 3 years ago).

Decision Support: Helping you choose paint colors, artwork, or furniture without the stress and overwhelm of doing it solo.

Project Management: Assisting with a move (packing/unpacking) or prepping for events & parties.

  • Why should I work with you instead of an organizer or interior designer?

I love this question! It’s the perfect way to explain how I’ve combined my favorite details that make homes feel more managable and magical.

I’ve spent time in both the organizing and design worlds, and while I loved them both, I realized I couldn’t choose just one. To me, organization and design are like two sides of a see-saw (yes, a see-saw 😉): you need a pretty equal amount of both to strike that charming, supportive balance of beauty and function. (Plus, I believe it all should be fun, too!)

Plus, I care heaps about how a whole home functions, so light tidying, decluttering, and making sure your surfaces sparkle are part of my bag-of-tricks, too.

If it’s about home details and finding ways to add flow and funcationality to your home, it’s probably up my alley. ;)

I’m your gal for space support (room layouts, closet overhauls, etc.) and room refreshes (color, furniture selection, finding ways to use what you already have in a repurposed, supportive-for-your-life-now way!) where we can play with both systems and style that make your home feel more like “you” and your life easier. I swear it’s possible.

If you’re looking to knock down walls for a big remodel, or if you need only strict organizing, I have a perfect circle of experts I can point you toward.

But if you want a home that feels and functions as good as it looks? Tag me in!

  • Wait...where are your before & afters?

One day, I might sprinkle in some "before and after" magic here, because who doesn't love a good room makeover?

But honestly? My sessions are about so much more than just pretty corners and picture-perfect rooms. They’re about the people I work with and the whimsical, messy, supportive journey we take together! Here’s what I mean:

Sometimes we dive deep into decluttering a single room. Other times, we’re on a whirlwind adventure—popping over to the paint store, hunting for the perfect loveseat, or checking a baker’s-dozen of "to-dos" off your wishlist in one go.

    I’m a bit of a home-shopping-decorating-organizing-styling-to-do-list-supporting one-stop-shop!

I jump from task to task in a single session to turn your "overwhelmed" into "over-the-moon." 🥳

Because our homes aren’t just stand-alone rooms, after all; they’re intricately, connected puzzle pieces where one small change here makes a difference there—and I want the whole damn thing to feel cohesive and functional (and maintainable!) for you.

Sometimes the outcome is one pretty, photographable room. Mostly, it’s not. The best "after" isn't always a tidy surfac in a photo that’s impossible to maintain in real ;) life—it’s the relief you feel when you get unstuck. And stay unstuck.

That’s what I want for my clients: progress right away, and a HUGE sense of relief—and that’s what you’ll get from working with me. Can you picture that? (Wink.)

  • What can we get done during a session?

Honestly? The sky’s kinda the limit! I realize it can be hard to imagine everything we can squeeze into a session, but I promise the results after just a few hours can be pretty dreamy.

At the start of our time, we’ll do a quick "brain unwind" where you can share every wish, hope, and "maybe" on your list and make sure we’re on the same page.

No task is too tiny or too big to discuss—if you're wondering if I can help, just ask! I can handle a galore of projects for your home, or even your small business.

Each Cakewalk session is uniquely tailored to you. While every session is different, one thing doesn’t change: it’s YOUR time to get the multi-layered, specialized, sweet support you and your home deserve.

  • How is Cakewalk different than other organizers & home-based services?

For one thing, it’s not just about the "stuff": While some organizers and decorators focus primarily on the objects in your home (and often the new bins that you “need” for your items), Cakewalk focuses on the people and the process and offers friendly, flexible, multi-faceted support along the way. It’s about you first.

A Balanced Approach: I balance Beauty (design) and Function (organizing). I love BOTH pretty equally, which I’ve found is kinda unique. If you need a new rug, a paint color for your office, and a system for your pantry, Cakewalk does it all…oh, and tidying and tons more, too.

Flexibility Over Rules: There are no strict categories or "rainbow only" requirements, though I’m crazy about color in my own home. 🌈 It’s about listening to what YOU want, and helping you create a space that makes you breathe easier, whether that fits in a perfect photo or just makes your Tuesday run a heck of a lot smoother. I’m here for both! Most importantly, I’m here for you. ❤️

  • How many sessions should I schedule for my project?

Ooo, this is an “easy” one. The easy answer is it depends on what you want! The other easy answer is it’s totally your call. ;)

Often, people start with one or two sessions and are ready to book their next session within a couple weeks. It’s all about your goals, budget, and how soon you want knock things off your to-do list together!

Yep, you get to schedule a session or more … as you wish! And it’s 100% flexible.

You pick the pace of each session and the frequency of how often we meet, which can vary from 2-3x weekly to monthly to seasonally. I’m here to make things at home feel like more like a cakewalk, after alll, so that starts with scheduling flexibility from the get-go.

  • Are sessions booked for full days? Do I have to sign a contract?

No, I keep things flexible and use a book-and-pay-as-you-go approach for now. I may offer packages in the future, but until then, you can choose between these pretty fun options:

    Short-Cake Session: Typically 3ish hours.

Full-Cake Session: A deeper session lasting 4+ hours for more extensive projects.

Mini-Cake Session: A quick-boost session for smaller tasks, starting at 1.5 hours or more. (Available for returning clients.)

Holiday Decorating Session: A specialized 2.5-hour session for festive styling and party-prep.

  • Are you like Marie Kondo or The Home Edit?

Cakewalk kinda marches to the beat of its own drum and hangs out in its own cozy corner where organizing and design / decorating meet.

In a way, Cakewalk bridges the gap between these two famous and fantastic methods, while adding a personalized "third side" to the story…or third layer to the cake, if you will. 🎂

Marie Kondo (The Philosopher): this approach focuses on the sparking-joy category-based sorting (all your clothes at once, etc.), and being mindful about your belongings. She often encourages "shopping your home" for storage rather than buying new bins. I do a little of that, too!

The Home Edit (The Stylists): These smartypants, stylish gals and their rainbow aesthetic are more about room-by-room overhauls, that require specific, matching containers (like we all love from The Container Store … swoon!) and labels to create a photogenic, "finished" look. I do a little of that, too. ;)

Cakewalk (The Personalized Puzzle): Incorporating what I love about those two methods, Cakewalk connects the *many* puzzle pieces of your home. It combines the smart, savvy systems of organizing with the creative "vision" of interior design—like paint colors, furniture layout, and artwork, sometimes using what you already have in new, snazzy, fun and functional ways.

I see potential in every space and I’m passionate about homes feeling as supportive and homey (and “you”!) as possible. My ideas for your space start stirring in my head as soon as we start talking … and especially when I see your space.
